How would it change your business if a lot more people knew about you?
This is the process we use to understand how quick our marketing efforts will work. It helps us identify opportunities for quick wins. (HINT -- NEARLY ALL ARE AWESOME OPPORTUNITIES)
First - Search for your service in your town using the search engine of your choice. (For Example -- Tree Removal Enterprise Alabama). You'll get a list of advertisements, map listing, and search results. We're going to focus on the map listings and search results for this exercise.
Here are the map listings for 'Tree Removal Enterprise Al':
Now we're going to check the top three map listings against the rest of the search results:
The first thing we're looking for... Are businesses in the map listings also showing up in the search results? The answer in this case is only 1. Beaver Tree shows up in both places. I'm discounting Bigelows since they're showing up as a Facebook account and not their business website. Displacing a Facebook page is typically much easier than someone's business website.
The second thing I notice is the first three search results are Thumbtack, Homeadvisor, and Angie's List. This is good for us. I'll explain... the search engine's main purpose is to provide the user with a good experience. Typically when it comes to service based businesses, such as landscaping / tree service, they prefer to return small businesses in the area. Typically those businesses provide a better experience for the customer as opposed to Thumbtack, Homeadvisor, or Angie's List. But, it takes effort and know how, to get there.
In this case, there only appears to be one business (Beaver Tree) in this market that has put a focus on online marketing. Very rarely do businesses show up in both the maps and search results simply by accident.
That means there is a massive opportunity for another tree service in this town to take advantage!!
